INDIANAPOLIS – The NCAA Women’s Bowling Committee has selected Detroit, Mich., as the host site for the 2011 NCAA National Collegiate Women’s Bowling Championship.
The 2011 bowling championship, hosted by the University of Detroit Mercy, will be a double-elimination event featuring the top eight teams from NCAA institutions where women’s bowling is offered as a varsity sport. The championship will take place April 14-16 at Skore Lanes in Taylor, Mich.
“The University of Detroit Mercy is committed to making the 2011 NCAA National Collegiate Women’s Bowling Championship a tremendous success for the participating student-athletes and the local community,” said Keri Gaither, athletic director for the University of Detroit Mercy.
The 2010 NCAA National Collegiate Women’s Bowling Championship, hosted by New Jersey City University, will be held in North Brunswick, N.J., at the Brunswick Zone Carolier Lanes, April 8-10.

Our resident bowling hero Kolan McConiughey, who splashed all over the Detroit market last year in the Free Press, does it again after President Obama stuck his foot in his mouth on Jay Leno’s show on Thursday night.
Kolan just might get a trip to the White House.

Area High Schools gathered at CUBS’ A.C. and Colonial Lanes for a season opening “Kick Off” party. Colonial Lanes and CUBS’ A.C. are committed to fostering Youth Education Initiative promotions, events and programs in Washtenaw County. That is what being a “Good Neighbor” is all about.

ANN ARBOR dpa: New Head Football Coach Rich Rodriguez and the entire U-M football squad are coming together as a “family” like never before. On Wednesday, August 20th, a special fund-raiser was held right here at Colonial Lanes. “Bowling for Brock” successfully raised over $15,000 to support expenses incurred by Brock Mealer last Christmas Eve in an auto accident. Billed as the largest single amateur athletic event, the 2008 Junior Olympics held at Eastern Michigan University the past few weeks could not have been pulled off without the kitchen staff of CUBS’ AC and the management team of Colonial Lanes. Several comments from participants from as far away as New Orleans claimed the 3 meals catered daily from CUBS’ AC were the “Best” they ever had in the history of the event!

I suppose this is viewed as a worthwhile endeavor around Columbus, Ohio. At least we know they won’t be outsourcing production to China.

There are 20 cities who made the finalist list for the ESPN series, and the State of Michigan has 2 of them. You can’t boast national importance much better than 52 titles, however, and UofM and Ann Arbor have just that. Read more here.
